Heating Tips

What to do when the boiler fails to operate

Cleaning – Schedule a cleaning in the summer while the demand for heat is non-existant. If it needs additional work, the summer is a great time to get it fixed. Your heating system gets a good workout during the winter. Be nice to it. Heat – Keep registers, vents, baseboards, etc free of obstructions, dust and anything else that can detract heat from a natural flow. Insulation – There are inefficient areas in most home. Check doors, windows and situations where cold air can get into your home. Insulate those areas to keep the heat in. Thermostat – Get an electronic thermostat that will automatically go down when heat is not needed, and up when there’s people in the home. Depending on the situation, you can save between 5 and 10 percent in heating costs. New System – An heating system that’s over 20 years old is highly inefficiency. A new system can be 20% to 25% more efficient than your old system. With some upfront costs, you can get a return on your investment in just a few years.
